Qatar (FETP)

With support from EMPHNET and the US CDC, the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar established the Public Health Empowerment Program–Basic Field Epidemiology (PHEP-BFE) in May 2022. This program aims to accelerate the development of a skilled public health workforce capable of responding to emergencies, improving surveillance, and strengthening preparedness. In Qatar’s context, several factors highlight the need for a sustainable epidemiology training program including: the large and diverse expatriate population, frequent mass gatherings, and a high noncommunicable disease burden that can increase vulnerability to infectious disease threats. Through this program, Qatar is building a resilient workforce equipped to address these challenges.
